The inaugural FRD LMP3 Esports Endurance
will be held on the coming Saturday (Jan 30) at the famous Sepang International
Circuit, Malaysia. Drivers and teams, including champions of the Renault Asia
eRacing Winter Season, will be facing an unprecedented challenge of 5 grueling
hours of esports racing in the coming weekend.
After the successful and exciting Renault
Asia eRacing Winter Season, Formula Racing Development (FRD) to hold another
Esports race under its FRD LMP3 Series, which was held since 2017. The LMP3
category was created by ACO, the organizer of 24 Hours of Le Mans, as a junior
prototype class for teams and drivers who have the ambition of racing in Le
Mans. The FRD LMP3 Series uses the one-make Ligier JS P3 race car, which uses
the Nissan V8 engine that produces 420hp, creating a fair and economic
environment for Asian drivers and racing teams to take off as the first step of
chasing the dream of racing at Le Mans. While the global pandemic may have
prevented us from the real actions, FRD and Cyberport will be bringing the
eSports race under this series for the first time in the coming weekend.
The FRD LMP3 Esports Endurance will be a
5-Hour endurance race. As a tradition of endurance racing, this race will also
involve driver changing. Every car will have to consist 2 to 5 drivers and each
driver may not complete more than 70% of the total distance. Unlike the
previous sprint races we saw, the endurance race will involve numerous
pit-stops for refueling, tyre changes, damage repair and driver swaps. This
5-Hour endurance race will be an ultimate challenge for the participants’
strategy and strength.
This
weekend’s race will involve some big names in both the real and sim world. To
start it off, the 1st and 2nd at the Renault Clio Cup
Asia eRacing Winter Season, Ho Sek Yin and Tianyang Zhang will be forming a
“Dream Team” at the Gravity Transfer team. Runner-up in the Formula Renault
winter season, Dillan Tan from Singapore, will also take part in this race,
teaming up with fellow countryman, Javier Lai. SGAN Motorsport will have 2
teams, 1 based in Hong Kong and the other based in Taiwan, taking part with
Calix Poon and Jay Yang leading their teams’ challenge. Apart from these
familiar names from the previous esports series, some famous drivers from the
real racing series will also take part. Asian Formula Renault Champion, Hong
Kong’s Jim Ka To will be teamed with Jactin Chung and Anson Law, Hong Kong’s
up-and-coming motorcycle racer. Joining them on the grid will be Climax
Racing’s Kang Ling, the Chinese driver who has years of European racing
experience. His teammates will be Li Rui.
With so
many big names and experienced sim racer, the 5-Hour endurance race in Sepang
will be an absolute thriller. The FRD LMP3 Esports Endurance will be live
broadcasted in YouTube Cyberport and FayeTV channel, as well as FRD Facebook
